Mcafee Drive Encryption Fatal Error

How does McAfee Protects System from Fatal Error?

Mostly www.McAfee.com/Activate provides digital security software for personal and server computers. Intel bought Mcafee in 2010, and since then it has become one of the world’s leading Internet users. McAfee is one of the anti-virus software most widely used. It’s not just a single program, but a whole array of software that helps protect our device from malicious files and folders that are often referred to as viruses. This virus can enter our computer at any time and corrupting them causes enormous damage to our files and folders. If we have McAfee software installed on our system then our device will be scanned from time to time, thus protecting our computer against such viruses. It is therefore also recommended that we keep McAfee anti-virus software installed at all times on our computer.

Mcafee drive encryption fatal error 0xee020002
Environment
McAfee Drive Encryption (DE) 7.x
Hewlett Compaq Pro Elite 8300 SFF (BIOS: v02.05 to v02.57) See KB79422 for descriptions of environments enabled by DE 7.x.

Problem

The device does not start after the first machine reboot after successfully downloading DE, encrypting and triggering on a Compaq Pro Elite 8300 SFF.
The machine shows one or both of the following errors during the system initialization and before the pre-boot authentication screen is displayed:
FATAL ERROR: 0xEF000008 Failed to load the cryptographic module
FATAL ERROR: 0xEE020002 Error disk writing sector
The BIOS on this model supports unaligned memory access in the BIOS, which can be verified using the KB72826 tool.

Cause

These errors are caused by a BIOS problem with the HP Compaq Pro Elite 8300 SFF when configured in IDE mode (INT13).
NOTE: AHCI is the default setting in the BIOS in the HP maintenance and service guide.

Solution

Contact HP and request that when the BIOS is configured in IDE Mode, they investigate and resolve the BIOS problem for this model.
Implement the following workaround in the meantime.

Workaround

Set the BIOS to SATA mode for the Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI).
IMPORTANT: The operating system may need to be reinstalled.

Environment

McAfee Drive Encryption (DE) 7.x
See KB79422 for descriptions of environments supported by DE.

Problem

The following error can be seen during full disk encryption:
[ e0020007 ] Disk sector error reading

Cause

Error is a good indicator that either the hard drive fails or several bad sectors have been found. The explanation that bad sectors are correlated with Full Disk encryption is due to the storage of each sector. The drive maintains an internal bad block database, so it transparently maps a good block in its place from a hidden part of the disk when the drive detects a bad block. The problem does not arise until the disk runs out of storage to do the secret remap, then the errors inside Windows become apparent. Because all sectors of a disk are affected by Full Disk encryption, what was seen as a working disk can suddenly appear to show mistakes.

Solution

  1. Copy the disk, then try to decrypt it.
NOTE: You must use the-or option to create a sector-by-sector image when using Ghost imaging software.
  1. To save important data to another Network Share or External storage device, use the DETech Utility.
See DETech’s respective version to:
  • Create a bootable media for DETech.
  • Use the bootable DETech media to disable the hard disk encryption and boot area.
Recent reports of DETech at the time of publication:
  • DE 7.2 User Guide for DETech (PD26657)
  • DE 7.1 User Guide for DETech-Rev B (PD24871)

Environment

McAfee Drive Encryption (DE) 7.1.0 with or without Patch 1, 2 or 3
All Windows Operating Systems powered by Legacy BIOS Mode
Hewlett Packard (HP) Spectre Pro x360 G2 See KB79422
for information on DE enabled environments.

Problem

On HP Spectre Pro x360 G2, you successfully install DE, encrypt and activate it. The HP Spectre Pro x360 G2 does not boot after a subsequent system restarts.
During pre-boot authentication, the following error is shown:
Fatal Error:[ 0xEE0D0001] Failed to read Registry File
After pre-boot authentication, a blank screen is shown and the system is unresponsive.

Cause

The problem of compatibility with firmware.

Solution

Upgrade the BIOS, then upgrade DE:
  1. upgrade the BIOS for this model to the latest version.
  2. Upgrade to either:
  • DE 7.1.0 Patch 3 Hotfix 1148978 (building 7.1.3.604)
  • 7.2.0 or later

For details of environments supported by EEPC 7.0.x

Problem

The mfeEpelog records several errors in the successful upgrade of the client from EEPC 5.2.13 to either DE 7.1 or EEPC 7.0.x.
You see the policies have migrated successfully after completing the migration.
NOTE: Upgrades from other EEPC 5 updates, while updating to DE 7.1 or EEPC 7.0.x, do not report such errors.
The following errors are recorded in MfeEpe.log:
ERROR MfeEpePcEncryptionProviderPlugin Failed to get all required system objects during initialization: [0xEE040001] Opening driver
ERROR PcSystem Error getting system information: [0xEE120106] Loading system alg ID
WARNING MfeEpeEsEncryptionInformationService

WARNING MfeEpeEsEncryptionInformationService ..\..\..\Src\EpeGenInfoHandler.cpp: EPE_gen_info_handler::handle_get_system_info_query: 158: [0xEE120106] Loading system alg ID
ERROR PcSystem Error getting system information: [0xEE120106] Loading system alg ID

Solution

This behavior is predicted. For a device that has not yet completely configured, the errors are all-natural. When you open the Endpoint Encryption Status Tray tab, the errors could be seen if the activation takes longer during the migration.

Environment

McAfee Drive Encryption (DE) 7.1.x
Hewlett Packard (HP) Compaq Pro 6300, 6200.
For details of DE 7.1.x supported environments

Problem

The DE preboot authentication screen will not be shown after installing DE and restarting the device.
A black screen will be displayed during system initialization with the following error:
ERROR: [ 0xEF000008 ]-Cryptographic module failed to load.

Solution

If the BIOS is set in IDE Mode, contact HP to get them to investigate and fix the BIOS problem for this model.
Apply the workaround shown below as a temporary measure

Workaround

Set the BIOS to SATA mode for the Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI).
WARNING: The operating system may need to be re-installed. Several Operating Systems (OS), especially Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8, are not configured to load the AHCI driver on boot if the SATA drive controller was not in AHCI mode at installation time. If the SATA controller is later switched to AHCI mode, this can cause boot failure with an error message. For this reason before downloading an operating system, Intel suggests switching the drive controller to AHCI or RAID.

Environment

McAfee Drive Encryption (DE) 7.1.x
For specifics of DE 7.1.x enabled environments

Summary

Investigations found that a number of computers either registered errors after/before the pre-boot authentication stage (PBA) or stopped responding after PBA due to a lack of unaligned memory access support.

Problem

With different errors and symptoms, different computer models fail. For example, one of the following messages may appear during startup:
Fatal Error:[ 0xEE00000B] EPEi system policy (EE00000B)
Fatal Error:[ 0xE0020008] Fatal Error writing to disk sector (E0020008)
Fatal Error:[ 0xEE020002] Fatal Error writing to disk sector (EE020002)
HP models usually display one of these errors on a black screen and you can’t access the computer on Windows.
Normally, Lenovo models stop reacting for about 45 seconds after either canceling the PBA display or authenticating at PBA and then starting normally.

Cause

The vendor lacks unaligned memory access support.
IMPORTANT: Only when the BIOS is in IDE mode will this issue be revealed. AHCI calls a different path of code and avoids the problem.

Solution

The SMBIOS tool(OnTimeSMBIOS MemV2.zip containingOnTimeSMBIOS Mem.is, attached to this article) has been created by the product development team to test whether the BIOS has a problem. This software allows you to capture and test BIOS data if it supports memory access to Aligned and Unaligned.
The extension has been changed to (.is), so that the attached ISO within the ZIP archive is not blocked by firewalls. Rename the extension to’OnTimeSMBIOS Mem.iso’ after extracting the’OnTimeSMBIOS Mem.is’ folder.
NOTE: If you see an error (e0020008), take a screen picture and create a Service Request so that the PBA code is hard-coded as an exception for that device.

Problem

All systems fail to activate after Drive Encryption has been successfully installed.
This issue reported new encrypted systems that on the preboot authentication screen are unable to recognize any domain users, only local directory user accounts are recognized.
The problem will be seen on MA 5.0.3.272 systems

Cause

The MA macompatsvc method runs slowly on MA 5.0.3.272 installed systems, resulting in poor implementation of policies.

Solution

This problem is solved in MA 5.0.3.316 Hotfix 1131329, available from the Product Downloads website.
